Christmas holidays at Museum Batavialand!

Spend the Christmas holidays at Museum Batavialand!

This Christmas holiday, Museum Batavialand is buzzing with activities for young and old! The whole family is welcome to uncover hidden stories together and enjoy a varied program full of adventure, creativity, and maritime history.

Discover the fascinating underwater world

A highlight this holiday season is the new exhibition "Under Water!: Dive into the World of the Underwater Archaeologist". Be transported to the secrets of shipwrecks and discover how underwater archaeologists recover treasures from the seabed. With interactive elements, expert stories, and a life-size model of a shipwreck, this exhibition shows that archaeology is anything but boring.

During the Christmas holidays, a special story about the new exhibition will be told daily from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Our guides will take you on a journey through unique objects from the National Maritime Archaeology Collection, offering an exclusive glimpse into the work of archaeologists, both past and present.

Explore, create, and experience: activities for the whole family

In addition to the exhibition, Museum Batavialand offers a variety of activities that bring history to life. Join the photo scavenger hunt to find real objects and their replicas scattered throughout the museum and shipyard. Learn traditional maritime skills like knot tying, enjoy stories around the campfire, or unleash your creativity by making buttons or coloring winter-themed artworks inspired by underwater archaeology. To top it off, watch demonstrations of 17th-century cooking techniques, bringing the flavors and methods of the VOC era to life.

Practical information

Museum Batavialand is open throughout the Christmas holidays, except on December 25, 26, 31, and January 1. Each day features different activities; a schedule of the day’s events is available at the museum entrances.
